Bits

Bits are a key element in the communication between the rider’s hand and the horse’s mouth. Depending on their shape, material, and construction, they apply pressure differently to the tongue, bars, and sometimes the palate. Single-jointed or double-jointed bits, as well as different cheekpiece styles such as eggbutt or D-ring, influence the position and stability of the bit in the horse’s mouth. The most important factor is that the bit is correctly fitted and lies calmly in the mouth to allow gentle and horse-friendly communication.

Specialty Bits

Specialty bits are used when traditional bits are not sufficient or when specific requirements need to be addressed. They are suitable for sensitive horses, training challenges, or for refining communication and aids. Depending on their design, they apply pressure differently to the tongue and bars, which is why the selection should always be made individually and with professional guidance. In our range, you will find, among others, the following common specialty bits:

• D-ring bit – provides a stable position in the mouth and clear lateral aids
• Weymouth bit – used together with a bradoon, designed for advanced riders
• Pelham bit – combines the characteristics of a snaffle and a curb bit, with adjustable leverage action
• Kimblewick – offers gentle leverage with a curb action for controlled riding

Pelham

The Pelham combines the functions of a snaffle and a curb bit in one bit, providing a combined effect on the horse’s mouth and poll. It is commonly used in show jumping and cross-country riding. Depending on how it is fitted – with two reins or with roundings – the intensity of the action can be adjusted.

Weymouth Bits & Bradoons

Weymouth bits are primarily used in combination with a bradoon in advanced dressage training. This type of bridle setup allows for very refined and precise communication between rider and horse. It is important that both bits are perfectly coordinated and that there is sufficient space in the horse’s mouth. Incorrect fitting can quickly lead to pressure or discomfort, which is why special care and attention are essential.
